12 Tips to Being the Best You

Have you ever heard the saying, “I’m my own worst enemy”? There is some truth to that and when we behave in a way that indicates we are at war with ourselves, not only does it negatively affect us, but it reflects how we interact with others.

Here are some tips to help us be the best version of ourselves that we can be:

  1. Stop the negative self-talk. Seriously, if we don’t have something nice to say, we shouldn’t say it at all. We all have amazing strengths and abilities that deserve recognition; on the flip side, we all have some opportunities to improve too, but nothing we can’t gain victory over with intentionality, perseverance and hard work.
  2. When something doesn’t go the way we hoped, it’s ok to acknowledge it, but we should focus in on the positive aspect.
  3. Set goals and go after them.
  4. Be determined to smile and laugh more.
  5. Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is not defeat, it’s how we learn and grow.
  6. Never speak negatively of others unless they personally ask and it’s the truth. Just like our self-talk, what we say about others should be about their strengths, rather than their weakness.
  7. Spend time wisely. Wasting time has no place in the life of a go-getter and that includes gossiping and too much social media time.
  8. Take a leap of faith. Sometimes we just should rely on the situation and our gut instincts. For instance, when it comes to landing a dream career that may require a move to an unknown city; we may have to just do our research, determine if it’s feasible, and make a move—regardless of whether it’s 100 percent comfortable or not.
  9. Refuse to snooze (or procrastinate). Instead of hitting snooze, get that morning walk in. Rather than putting it off, sign up today for that cooking class you have been wanting to take.
  10. Spend time talking with people. Whether it’s your grocery store cashier or a lady in the elevator—at least say hi. Social interaction with people in person is good for our overall health.
  11. Dedicate yourself to being the best friend, family member, or employee you can be.
  12. Determine to leave every person feeling better than how they felt prior to talking with you.
